biography

Nicole Martens (1974, Utrecht, NL) studied Graphic and Audiovisual Design at the Willem de Kooning Academie Rotterdam, where she graduated Cum Laude in 2005.

Her work is about chaos and structure; how to capture information in an inspiring and challenging  structure. She's not reluctant of tackling existing systems and in the process creating new ones. With or without concept, conventions are always questioned. Change is a good thing, especially when it confronts the user and audience; it keeps them sharp.

The tense and dependent relationship between Nature and Culture; Emotion and Ratio; Evolution and Creation are important themes in her work. As a human being, designer and artist she tries to achieve a harmonious whole.

She positions herself between art and design and explores new areas within given contexts; using diverse media.
